The stigma of disability turns blind, deaf, and mentally or physically disabled people into incapable, helpless beings with no rights. However, in recent times, the perception of people with disabilities has been changing with the help of social media, influencers, websites, movies, and soap operas, which bring forth opinions and debates that help reduce prejudice.<\/p>\n

And this carnival, the fight for inclusion gains even more strength! The theme will be the plot of the Camisa 12 samba school. Developed by carnival designer Delmo Morais and artistic director Claudio Cebola, the plot is titled: \u201cFrom Inclusion to Overcoming. We Are All Equal. I Am a Champion.\u201d As the name itself suggests, this is a project that will bring overcoming and equity to the Anhembi Sambadrome. The association, originating from the Corinthians organized supporters group, will be the second to last to parade on carnival Saturday, February 11th.<\/p>\n

For federal public defender Andr\u00e9 Naves, a specialist in Human and Social Rights, it is extremely important that the fight for the social inclusion of people with disabilities gains more and more visibility in order to raise greater awareness among people, in addition to demanding more initiatives from public authorities for solutions that make the daily lives of this population easier. Andr\u00e9 Naves makes a point of praising the Corinthians fan base for its active fight for social inclusion and greater accessibility in football stadiums.<\/p>\n

\u201cCorinthians fans deserve applause. Always in defense of democracy and social inclusion! And the Camisa 12 samba school, born from the Corinthians fan base, by bringing a samba plot about social inclusion and parasports, reinforces the importance of the fight for inclusion! In addition to the impacts caused by physical or psychological limitations, the social exclusion of people with disabilities brings disastrous consequences. The lack of accessibility in urban mobility, for example, often takes away the desire to leave the house because the person already anticipates the difficulties they will face. We want to see more attitudes like this from the Camisa 12 school on social media, soap operas, throughout our society, declared the public defender.<\/p>\n

The fight against ableism has recently gained more space on broadcast television as well. Author Gl\u00f3ria Perez shows in TV Globo's soap opera \u201cTravessia\u201d the daily drama of a wheelchair-using lawyer. Actress T\u00e1bata Contri, who plays the character Juliana, has been exposing the physical and emotional suffering that millions of Brazilians with limitations face across Brazil.<\/p>\n

According to the IBGE, 24% of the country's population\u2014about 50 million Brazilians\u2014have some form of disability.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
