Two teams of people with dwarfism played a closely contested soccer match on the sports court at Reatech 2023. The initiative is from the National Institute of Dwarfism, a partner of the event, which saw an opportunity to give visibility to the sport that is still in its infancy in Brazil and suffers from a lack of sponsorship and infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n Fernando Vigui, leader of the Nanismo Brasil movement, which offers support to adults with dwarfism, recalls that it all started as a joke. \u201cLike every Brazilian, I've always liked to kick a ball around and, together with friends, I decided to form a group for us to play.\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n The movement grew and small tournaments began to emerge. \u201cToday we already have the Brazilian Dwarfism Championship and the Brazilian National Team will participate in the World Cup that will take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, between November 4 and 14,\u201d he states.<\/span><\/p>\n Dwarf football is part of the BRASA Project, initiated in 2017 in Rio de Janeiro. Previously, the program focused on football as a tool for inclusion. This year, the BRASA Project expanded and ABEN \u2013 Brazilian Association of Sports for People with Dwarfism was created, which includes, in addition to football, other parasports modalities.<\/span><\/p>\n National team player Simon Pacheco talks about the difficulty of participating in championships due to a lack of support and sponsorship. But he guarantees that the goal is to achieve the inclusion of dwarfism football in the Paralympics. \u201cWe want the International Paralympic Committee to recognize the sport and include it in the next edition,\u201d he states.<\/span><\/p>\n With tears in their eyes, many mothers, family members, and friends welcome the people coming out of the Equine-assisted Therapy demonstration area, where they have the opportunity to ride a horse. Keity Santana, 28, who is blind, said she was very moved by the experience. \u201cIt feels like you're floating,\u201d she describes, praising the fair's activities. \u201cI'm really enjoying this edition. I've already visited booths with 3D printing, with Braille toys. It's been a very good experience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n For Alessandra Ferraz, 42, it was the second time she had ever ridden a horse. \u201cI\u2019ve had my leg amputated for 13 years, and since then, I had only ridden once, but still without the prosthesis I use today. This second time was much more interesting, a different feeling, with a lot more security,\u201d she evaluates. \u201cI come to Reatech every year and I\u2019m finding this edition very dynamic and even more accessible. It\u2019s quite easy to get around and the lines are moving very fast.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Equitherapy space is next to the Little Farm, another area where the public can interact with various animals. Both are organized by GATI (Integrated and Therapeutic Approach Group). The chance to see her 4-year-old daughter interact with animals such as rabbits, tortoises, dogs, and guinea pigs, among others, also moved Sandra Rocha, mother of Kivya, a child with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). \u201cThe experience at the little farm was great, because she loves animals and was able to play with the dogs and the rabbits,\u201d Rocha explains. \u201cHer reaction to the animals was beautiful; she felt super comfortable. I can only thank you for this event, which shows that the world is looking out for our atypical children, and we really need this support.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Extremely excited, 8-year-old Luis Gustavo, also with ASD, rushes to say that the animals he liked the most were the rabbit, the tortoise, and the dogs. His mother, Sim\u00f4nica Correia<\/span>, <\/b>describes the experience as wonderful. \u201cEveryone is very kind and the animals are very docile and loving. They are animals that help a lot with therapy. It\u2019s my first time at Reatech and the fair is fantastic, with a lot of technology and new products. I am loving it and he is very excited, very curious to see everything.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The success of the animal therapy spaces was reinforced by Liana Pires, director of GATI Equitherapy and representative of ANDE (National Association of Equitherapy). \u201cIn just one day, we registered over 650 people visiting the two spaces. Therefore, the services provided by ICOM have been reaching more and more companies, such as the UBS and UPAs \u2013 Emergency Care Units of the City of S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/span><\/p>\n Godoi explains that it is very easy to use the application. \u201cThe deaf person arrives at the establishment and scans a QR Code with their cell phone, and it immediately appears on their screen, with a response time of up to 90 seconds for the sign language interpreter to make a visual connection with the deaf person. From this interaction, our support team is able to capture the audio, in real time, and convey the instructions.
