The new products aimed at improving the quality of life for people with disabilities or reduced mobility are being presented by the 300 exhibitors operating in various segments such as employment agencies, financial institutions, wheelchair and hearing aid manufacturers, pharmaceutical industries, trained animal services, adapted vehicles, alternative therapies, and tourism and leisure. The event runs until Sunday and is expected to welcome 52,000 visitors.

At the opening ceremony, Rimantas Sipas, commercial director of Cipa Fiera Milano, organizer and promoter of the trade show, highlighted the importance of the event. “We feel absolutely motivated to deliver, with each new edition, a trade show full of products, services, and side attractions. It is truly a privilege for us at Cipa Fiera Milano.” Sipas highlighted the holding of the Reackathon, a marathon focused on accessibility solutions. “The Reackathon is one of the new features of this edition, which will stimulate the development of innovative technological solutions for the sector. It is a major bet and shows that Reatech remains in tune with the times,” the executive stated.

Robert Tripoli, International Development Director of Fiera Milano, who came from Italy exclusively for the fair, was impressed by the segment in Brazil. “Thanks to technological evolution and a growing concern for social responsibility, the sector has been recording growth in Brazil. To give you an idea, today about 3,600 companies are operating, including manufacturers, importers, and distributors,” he noted.

Representing the National Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights (MMFDH), Priscilla Roberta Gaspar de Oliveira, Paulo Roberto Amaral Vieira, director of the Department of Thematic Policies for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, spoke about the importance of the partnership between the public sector and initiatives like Reatech. “It is essential for the private sector to invest in an event that promotes accessibility and the empowerment of persons with disabilities.”.

Eduardo Carneiro, executive secretary of the State Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of São Paulo, representing Secretary Célia Leão, said that it is necessary to encourage the holding of more events like Reatech. “I like to call the sector the rehabilitation industry, because it puts the citizen back where they should always be, interacting with society.”.

São Paulo's Municipal Secretary for the Person with Disabilities, Cid Torquato, who represented Mayor Bruno Covas, recalled that the city hall of São Paulo has a booth at the fair where it will promote discussions on public policies for people with disabilities.

Test with adapted cars

Even experienced people have been surprised by the adapted cars on display at Reatech 2019, which runs until Sunday (16) at the São Paulo Expo. Toyota, Renault, and General Motors have made some of their models available for test drives during the fair.

For Luís Carlos Pereira Santos, 41, a clothing salesman, riding in an adapted vehicle was a gratifying experience. “Too good. Accessibility is total. I felt very comfortable and safe,” he guarantees.

A former owner of a modified Monza Classic as well, the wheelchair user refuses to make a comparison between the two vehicles. “The hand accelerator, starting with just the push of a button, and the brake, also operated by a button, offer much more comfort for someone who, like me, has certain limitations.” Santos also praised the adapted GM Spin, which offers the possibility of loading the wheelchair without disassembling it.

Gati Clinic Introduces Animal-Assisted Therapy

With a multidisciplinary team, Clínica Gati de Equotherapy is showcasing animal-assisted Pet Therapy at Reatech 2019. Dubbed the “little farm” at the fair, the booth brings together some of the animals used in care: rabbits, a cockatiel, a turtle, and dogs used to assist in the care of children with learning difficulties or who need rehabilitation.

According to Gati's coordinator, Júlia Ramos, the intention is to give visitors the opportunity to maintain contact with the animals. “They are part of the work. When we receive a new patient, an analysis is performed to determine which animal and what objectives for its use in therapy,” she explains. “It is a differentiated care, valuing the individuality and the demand of each clinical case.”.

Julia explains that Pet Therapy is a therapeutic method that uses a specific animal as a mediator in the therapeutic process. “For example, dog-assisted therapy, where the professional and the animal work directly on the patient's affectivity and relational and conflict situations.”.

HandTalk, the app that translates Portuguese (and soon, English as well) into sign language

Thanks to an app, a mother in Pará learned to say “I love you” to her deaf daughter.

In Alagoas, through the app, a doctor realized that what was happening to a 13-year-old girl was serious and referred her for tests. An intracranial hemorrhage was detected and, with proper treatment, the child, who is also hearing-impaired, left the hospital happy and without sequelae.

These are just a few examples—graceful and dramatic—of the usefulness of the HandTalk app and what it can do to facilitate communication between those who know and those who do not know Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). Whoever was at Reatech – International Fair of Technologies for Rehabilitation, Inclusion, and AccessibilityThis Thursday (13), to talk more about it, was João Vitor Bogas, marketing coordinator for the responsible company.

“Hearing impairment is invisible, since this community doesn’t use canes or wheelchairs. And that’s just the beginning of the problem: being visible in order to carve out a space for oneself,” she said. “There are 360 million people with hearing impairments worldwide, and 9.7 million in Brazil. The majority—80%—are illiterate or semi-literate, meaning they rely on sign language to communicate.”.

With HandTalk, available for free on smartphones, the user writes or dictates their message and Hugo, the app's 3D mascot and virtual interpreter, translates it into Libras – then you just show the phone screen to your interlocutor. It is also possible to learn Libras through the app's video lessons.

The company has other solutions, such as software to make websites accessible—with one click, Hugo appears and translates the selected text. The biggest news, however, is that next year its main app will arrive in the United States. With Google's support, it is being adapted into American Sign Language.

With several activities and Paralympic athletes, Reatech aims to boost adapted sports

For the 12th consecutive year, Reatech – International Fair of Technologies for Rehabilitation, Inclusion and Accessibility features the ADD Space – Sports Arena. At this location, concurrently with the fair, various sports activities aimed at people with disabilities will be held. In total, more than 32 hours of basketball, volleyball, handball, and even rugby and badminton are scheduled.

The project is a partnership between Cipa Fiera Milano, organizer and promoter of the event, and the Sports Association for the Disabled (ADD). “We always invite the public to participate in the activities—including playing with professional athletes. People can come at any time during the fair and they will find some activity underway,” says Eliane Miada, President of ADD.

According to Eliane, the project's success can be measured by the number of people who seek it out and who, because of it, start practicing physical activities. “The most important thing is this: to attract new people, regardless of the restriction they face, to adaptive sports.”.

On Thursday (16), Pedro Vieira, a Paralympic wheelchair basketball athlete, was present. He has been attending Reatech since 2011 and today, at 25 years old, he has already won a South American championship with the Brazilian national team and participated in the 2016 Rio Paralympics, finishing in fifth place. “Events like this are very important. In addition to giving visibility to parathletes, it promotes the sport to people who are not familiar with it and attracts more people to practice it.”.

In the coming days, more athletes are expected to appear at Espaço ADD – Arena Sports, such as swimmer Daniel Dias (24 Paralympic medals) and sprinter Alan Fonteles (gold in London 2012). On Sunday (16), a deaf volleyball friendly match will feature Xandó, from the Silver Generation of volleyball, as the coach of one of the teams.

Service:

16th Reatech 2019
DataJune 13 to 16
Schedules:
Days 13 and 14, from 1 PM to 8 PM,
Days 15 and 16, from 10 AM to 7 PM
LocalSão Paulo Expo Exhibition & Convention Center
https://reatechbrasil.com.br.alluring-pink-stork.72-61-35-14.cpanel.site/

About Cipa Fiera Milano

Cipa Fiera Milano, the Brazilian subsidiary of Fiera Milano—one of the largest trade fair and congress players in the world, which each year attracts approximately 30,000 exhibitors and more than five million visitors—became the majority shareholder of Cipa do Brasil in 2011, giving rise to Cipa Fiera Milano.
