In Brazil, there are more than 45 million. And a large portion of this population is unable to navigate the web due to a series of technological barriers. It is as if, in the physical world, access ramps, lowered curbs, or braille signs were to disappear.

A website or application developed without accessibility is therefore leaving out millions of potential users and visitors – which is bad for these people and for the service itself. The Web for All Movement, present at Reatech– International Fair of Technologies for Rehabilitation, Inclusion and Accessibility, was created to raise companies' awareness of this problem.

“Correcting these flaws is neither a complicated nor a very costly process. All that is lacking is information on the part of professionals who are not seeing the enormous market potential of this segment of the population,” she points out.

During the fair, the movement is promoting real-time testing of website accessibility levels. It is quite fast and, at the end, displays the barriers that are preventing access for people with disabilities.

At Reatech, there are also companies whose very objective is to solve this problem. Sinal Link, for example, states that through its solution, which is “simple, automatic, and powered by Artificial Intelligence,” it can make a website accessible in just 30 minutes. In general terms, it makes the portal customizable: upon accessing it, a user can increase the font size, invert colors, or replace the mouse with the keyboard for navigation.

Another company, HandTalk, discussed its tool in a presentation held on the first day of the trade fair. It is a website translator. When users click on a section of text, they will see the 3D mascot Hugo translating the content into Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). Several organizations, such as Samsung, Natura, and the City Hall of São Paulo, have already adopted HandTalk's solution on their portals.

Complete autonomy for wheelchair users

Cavenaghi, a company that manufactures automobile adaptations for drivers with some type of limitation, is showcasing at Reatech 2019 a modification that guarantees total autonomy for wheelchair users.

A Ford EcoSport is on display with the equipment that is still in the certification phase. The requirement is that it be a motorized wheelchair, according to Michelli Miyai, Marketing Manager at Cavenaghi.

The vehicle has an automatic system for opening the tailgate (trunk) activated by remote control. Next, a ramp, also automatic, descends. With the rear seats folded down, the wheelchair user goes up and positions themselves in front of the steering wheel, closes the door, and drives off without the need for any assistance.

Kit Livre promotes more autonomy and freedom for RadCross circuit competitors

“Hiking, going down stairs, and getting around in the brush was only possible because of the Kit Livre, as it allowed me to overcome mobility difficulties,” emphasizes Pedro Henrique Amorim, a participant in the RadCross championship for wheelchair users, which takes place this Saturday and Sunday (15th and 16th) at the LIVRE booth during Reatech – International Fair of Technologies for Rehabilitation, Inclusion, and Accessibility.

Pedrinho, as he is known by everyone, lives in Caraguatatuba and is already in his 15th edition of the championship, which is why he qualifies for the professional category. “I can consider myself a pioneer in this sport, because when I started participating, it wasn't known yet. Today, I am the poster boy for Kit Livre, and they sponsor me in RadCross events.”.

Valdir de Sousa Santos signed up for the competition for the first time because of encouragement from friends who already practice the sport, and he is super excited and thrilled about the contest. “I'm a little scared, but the safety equipment helps me overcome it, plus it gives me a sense of freedom,” he concludes.

RadCross is a sport similar to Bike Trial, with the difference that it is played with wheelchairs. Organized by the company LIVRE, a brand specialized in the development of assistive equipment, the championship is presented by Kit Livre, motorized equipment that has the function of transforming the wheelchair into an Electric Motorized Tricycle. The tournament is divided into two categories: professionals and amateurs.

Down syndrome requires proper nutrition

Natural and nutritious food is important for everyone's health, but even more significant for people with Down syndrome, whose intellectual development can be enhanced by food. The analysis is by pediatrician and geneticist Zan Mustacchi, who spoke yesterday during Reashow, an event parallel to the 16th Reatech – International Fair of Rehabilitation Technologies, Inclusion and Accessibility, which ends on Sunday (16), in São Paulo.

Considered one of the leading experts on Down syndrome, also known as trisomy 21, Mustacchi explained how the body works to highlight the benefits of natural foods. “When I consume a natural product, I have a potential absorption rate of 80%, passively, without expending energy. On the other hand, synthetic products have a maximum absorption rate of 20%, but they consume the body’s energy.”.

According to the geneticist, this is particularly important for people with Down syndrome, who—due to their genetic condition—have higher levels of copper and zinc, elements that protect the body’s electrical transmissions, and experience accelerated cellular aging. “A chemical process called myelination uses copper—which is present in lower amounts in people with Down syndrome—to improve the transmission of neurological signals. The better the myelination, the greater and more mature the learning ability,” Mustacchi explains. For this reason, according to Zan, the diet should be based on vegetables, fruits, leafy greens, nuts, dairy products, eggs, and fish, with low protein and low carbohydrate content.

Photobiomodulation: the use of light to recover tissues and inhibit pain

Reatech – International Fair of Rehabilitation Technologies also made room for a physiotherapy trend: photobiomodulation. This procedure is hardly new, but its adoption and variety of applications have increased considerably in recent years.

Photobiomodulation consists of using laser or LED devices on tissues to obtain favorable biological responses. You can do anything from stimulating a tissue, accelerating a healing process, to inhibiting a reaction, reducing a specific pain.

The subject was discussed by physical therapist Adriana Schapochnik during a lecture held at the Tecfisio space, which hosts seminars on advanced technologies in physical therapy. She emphasized, for example, that both LEDs and lasers produce similar effects, but are recommended for different situations.

“For large application areas, LEDs are more recommended, whereas lasers, due to their localized emission, are better for smaller areas,” he said this Friday (14). “Thus, you optimize treatment time without sacrificing the result.”.

Finally, Adriana also pointed out that photobiomodulation can be used for various pathologies and interfaces with other areas, such as speech therapy, dentistry, or medicine.

Service:

16th Reatech 2019
DataJune 13 to 16
Schedules:
Days 13 and 14, from 1 PM to 8 PM,
Days 15 and 16, from 10 AM to 7 PM
LocalSão Paulo Expo Exhibition & Convention Center
https://reatechbrasil.com.br.alluring-pink-stork.72-61-35-14.cpanel.site/

About Cipa Fiera Milano

Cipa Fiera Milano, the Brazilian subsidiary of Fiera Milano—one of the largest trade fair and congress players in the world, which each year attracts approximately 30,000 exhibitors and more than five million visitors—became the majority shareholder of Cipa do Brasil in 2011, giving rise to Cipa Fiera Milano.
