REATECH 15th edition: inclusion and quality of life for everyone

Fair is consolidated as the main event for disabled person


The biggest event in Latin America dedicated to foster and disseminate new projects for people with disabilities, held its 15th edition from June 01 to 04, 2017, at São Paulo Expo, in the city of São Paulo. According to IBGE data, Brazil has 46 million people with disabilities, which corresponds to 24% percent of the population.

In 15 editions, REATECH – Feira Internacional de Tecnologias em Reabilitação, Inclusão e Acessibilidade [International Fair of Technologies in Rehabilitation, Inclusion and Accessibility] gathered a broad diversity of equipment, products and services for the sector. The fair received more than 50 thousand visitors, among rehabilitation professionals, health area professionals, businesspeople, and final consumers.

More than 300 exhibitors, national and international, in 35 thousand square meters of area, brought launchings focused in assistive technology innovations as applications, vehicle adaptations, electrical wheelchair, prostheses and orthoses, orthopedic products, hospital and educative materials. The fair also counted with the presence of public and private entities, that presented their projects at the area of inclusion, accessibility and improvement of the quality of life of a disabled person.

Over more than 15 years, REATECH proposes itself to develop the sector and encourage the use of new technologies. We see that each fair edition grows with these objectives and that inclusion with quality of life becomes our great purpose”, affirmed Rimantas Sipas, Commercial Director of Cipa Fiera Milano, the event organizer.

New Technologies

The 15th edition of REATECH brought great news to the market. The robot guide dog Lysa was the highlight of the fair and a success with the public. In Brazil, there is around 6,5 million people with serious visual impairment, and only 100 guide dogs. The robot Lysa has similar functions as those of a conventional guide dog, with sensors that alert the visually impaired, by means of recorded voice messages, when there is holes, barriers and risks of collision in height in the path. Other innovation is the Firefly accessory, that transforms a manual wheelchair in an electrical tricycle.

Automotive Market

Large brands of the automotive sector made part of REATECH 2017: Audi, Fiat, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Jeep, Nissan, Renault, Toyota and Volkswagen. The brands presented their launches, programs and new technologies for a disabled person or with reduced mobility. The fair counted with a test-drive space, where the public could test some car models and their adaptations. The public also had access to information and could clarify the necessary procedures to enable the purchase of a vehicle with tax exemption in the stands of several driving schools at the event.

REASHOW: exhibitors invest in technology

The REASHOW – Exhibitors lectures presented a cycle of 25 free lectures offered by several brands presented at the fair. The schedule brought to debate new assistive technologies able to improve the quality of life of a disabled person. Highlights for the tablet in braille for visually impaired, theme of the lecture “Reinvenção do Braille no século XXI” [Braille reinvention in the XXI century]. With this assistive technology, it is possible to access social network, download books and files in several formats, as Excel worksheets. Some other innovation presented at the fair and at REASHOW was the Pegasus Ecosport, vehicle adaptation that enables 100% of autonomy for the wheelchair user. Through an automated system of opening and closing of the rear side of the vehicle, the person gets in the car without dislocate the wheelchair.

REASEM: the importance of the inclusion

On June 1 and 2, the Seminar of Rehabilitation and Inclusion Technologies, the REASEM, debated the joining of forces among health professionals, technology creators and educators with focus on inclusion. Around 12 themes were addressed, among them where in debate the mobility in big cities, the inclusion Law, disabled people careers, and financial lines for the acquisition of technological solutions that facilitate the accessibility.

The occupational therapist and international consultant on assistive technology, Gislaine Martin Philot, talked about dynamic assistive resources for people with neuromotor disabilities. The specialist explained that these resources can significantly improve the person interest to do an activity and its development. In this work segment, great technological highlight of the fair, the smart mouse and keyboard Tix was the theme in one of the lectures. Directed to people with reduced motor coordination, TIX was created by Gleison Fernandes de Faria, known as Gleisinho. Graduated in Computer Science, Gleisinho decided at the end of his graduation course, to develop a tool more appropriated for people with functional limitations similar to his. The concept of the Combined Keyboard then arises, idea developed in partnership with Adriano Assis. “TiX is an innovative assistive product and unprecedented in the world because meets a huge number of people with different disabilities and enables the unrestrained use of the computer, including surf in the web, access to social network, use of text editors and even games, all of this dispensing the installation of any specific software”, said Adriano during the event. For people with more serious motor disability, the keyboard has an accessory that capture the wink.

Physiotherapy is highlight at Tecfisio

The Seminar of Advanced Technologies in Physiotherapy addressed, on June 3, techniques in the field of physiotherapy. Five specialists in the area talked about methods that can help in the treatment of diseases and injuries, aiming to restore and maintain the physical and functional capacity of the patient. Among the themes of this edition: neuro evolutive treatment – Bobath concept, assistive technology applicability – interface, Theratogs and risk analyses for neurological damages in newborns and infants.

Rehabilitation is a theme at REAMED

REAMED – Congress of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, on June 3 and 4, showed the application of the rehabilitation science on behalf of quality of life and socialization. Among 15 themes addressed there were: the use of assistive technology by elderly people, neuro nutrition with focus on Down syndrome, readaptation post-prosthesis, most indicated therapies for Alzheimer syndrome, music therapy in motor rehabilitation and treatment and socialization of patients with hearing impairment.

PET Course: rehabilitation through animals

At the last day of the fair, was held the PET Course – Animal Assisted Therapy, where were discussed through several themes how animals can contribute in the rehabilitation and development of a disabled people. Coordinated by Liana Santos, psychopedagogue and director of Gati, the course brought six lectures with specialists in the area and addressed themes like “The Veterinarian role”, “Dressage” and “Differentiated animals in AAT”. Liana explained that each animal is used for a specific need, given as example the red-footed tortoise, used in autism cases, showing that is possible to stay recluse and participate of the external world at the same time.

Besides the PET Course, the AAT theme was treated at the Fazendinha (Pet Terapia) space, that brought owl, macaw, rabbit, guinea pig and red-footed tortoise to interact with visitors as part of the therapeutic process, where the focus is the bound established among people and animals.

Equine therapy

The fair counted with an equine therapy space, therapeutic and educational method that uses the horse as a motivational agent for patient physical and psychology gains. The companies Gati Equoterapia, Hípica Santa Terezinha and Texas Ranch participated. The space received more than 1.400 visitors.

The equine therapy was also theme of a workshop conducted on June 2. With the theme “Introduction to main concepts of Equine therapy: bases and foundations, contact with the horse and tridimensional movement observation”, the workshop brought three specialists in the area, addressing theoretical concepts, besides the practical experience at the final part of the event.

Inclusive Sport and Fashion

The inclusive sport also made part of the fair schedule. At the sports court, the public could watch basketball games, volleyball, soccer and performances with bicycles. Other highlight of the event was the inclusive fashion show, promoted by Aria Moda Inclusiva, held at the sports court.

Great names of the sport at REATECH 2017

REATECH 2017 had the presence of great names of the paralympic sport. Among the athletes were the gymnast Laís Souza, the swimming athletes and medalists Clodoaldo Silva, Camille Rodrigues and Talisson Glock, the archery athlete Andrey Muniz and Daniel Dias, Brazilian paralympic swimmer and greater medalist of the country.

Longstanding partnership

The partners associations and entities presented at REATECH: Associação de Assistência à Criança Deficiente (AACD), ADD – Associação Desportiva para Deficientes (ADD), Associação Brasileira de Assistência à Pessoa com Deficiência Visual (LARAMARA), Fundação Dorina Nowill para Cegos, Fundação Selma, Instituto Mara Gabrilli and Gati Equoterapia took information about their projects, products and services for the visitor public of the fair. The entities have a longstanding partnership with the event and participated over the 15 years of REATECH history.
