Reatech features live radio and TV broadcasting with blind and low-vision communicators

Since the first day of the event, the National Organization of the Blind of Brazil has been providing radio and TV coverage with 15 blind and low-vision professionals, including journalists, radio broadcasters, advertising specialists, and audio and video technicians. Reatech is being broadcast entirely and “live” on Rádio ONCB (www.oncb.org.br/radio). The team also does live streams with interviews and discussion panels on YouTube, which are shown on the ONCB channel and on social media (@oncbnarede).

According to Marcio Aguiar, secretary general of ONCB, the organization's participation in Reatech represents the union of 96 Brazilian entities. “Participating in a trade show that addresses technology and accessibility is essential for our rights to live in society as a visually impaired person. Furthermore, showcasing our work to people without any disabilities reaffirms our capability and reinforces the importance of inclusion.”.

During the coverage, the radio professionals showed great efficiency and agility in operating the equipment, as well as a lot of wisdom in dealing with the subjects. “We have a large team to develop the story ideas, conduct the interviews, and publish the content. To type on the computer, we work with touch typing techniques, but we also rely on the aid of some accessible tools, one of the main ones being a screen reader on the computer that helps us in various situations,” explains Gustavo Torniero, a radio journalist.

The booth of the National Organization of the Blind of Brazil also features a space for the employability of people with disabilities, with the participation of the Ágora program, aimed at professional inclusion. The program includes an online platform that brings together people with visual impairments, organizations, and companies, and also offers services such as professional guidance, training, and support for entrepreneurship.

For Wesley Gamaliel, who is also a journalist, the team's participation at Reatech has been very special. “Being able to bring this content to people with disabilities—not only visual—who couldn't attend the event is extremely rewarding and a source of great pride for us.”.
