Among the technologies being presented at Reatech is the OrCam MyEye, a device that provides independence to blind or low-vision people. The product, on display at the Ótica City Jr. booth, consists of an intuitive smart camera attached to eyeglass frames. It detects texts in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, and transmits the information to the users' ears.
“About 80% of the activities we perform on a daily basis are related to reading. OrCam MyEye, as a computer vision tool, provides access to information wherever a person may be, without the need for an internet connection,” says Doron Sadka, director of Mais Autonomia, the technology’s representative in the country.
The device can also identify colors and shades, recognize people and genders, faces, inform the date and time with a simple wrist-twist gesture, paper money (Brazilian reais, US dollars, and euros), and identify products by barcode. It serves as a complement to Braille and expands the possibilities for the visually impaired both in daily life and in the job market. Furthermore, it also assists in the development of people with dyslexia, reading deficits, or illiteracy.
