Pioneering, Reatech will have a space where visitors can feed and brush horses, in addition to learning about the benefits of Animal-Assisted Therapy
São Paulo, May 2023 – Maintaining the tradition that has been in place since the beginning of the fair, GATI (Integrated Therapeutic Approach Group) will be present at the Reatech – International Fair of Technologies in Rehabilitation, Inclusion and Accessibility, which takes place between October 4 and 7, at São Paulo Expo. The partnership allows for the creation of the ‘Fazendinha’ (Little Farm) and a series of lectures that make up the ‘Pet Course’.
“At Fazendinha, we will have equine-assisted therapy and a space designated for therapy with small animals. We provide a demonstration, a short hands-on experience, so that people can better understand how Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) works. This year, we will have something new: an area for feeding and brushing the horse, allowing visitors to get even closer to the animal, highlights Liana Pires Santos, psychopedagogue and director of Clínica GATI.
Despite the long-standing partnership between humans and animals, which can also be seen in AAA, many people are still unaware that various types of pets act as co-therapists, helping patients adapt to and recover from physical and mental conditions.
“There’s no doubt that many people learn about equine therapy at the fair. We conducted more than 2,000 riding sessions over the four days of the event, and at least 30% of those participants had never heard of this method before. Reatech is a pioneer in equine therapy.” indoor. We do not have any situation of the horse being shown to the public in a closed arena in Brazil. The audience is huge and draws attention. This reinforces that, if it were more widely publicized, the methodology could reach an even larger group,” she adds.
Equotherapy is a therapeutic method where the animal provides motor and psychological benefits for people with disabilities (PWD) or those who need this work. “The three-dimensional movement made by the horse's walk on the rider's pelvis offers a stimulus for posture and motor control. Reatech gives us the space to demonstrate this to the public,” she adds.
At Fazendinha, animals that are best known to the general public are presented, such as dogs, rabbits, birds, turtles, and some that cause strangeness at first glance, but with great results, according to the specialist. The frog, which provides a different stimulus because it is wet and cold, and the Madagascar cockroaches, which provide a different sensation when walking on the skin, thanks to the claws they have.

Responsible for creating the term equine-assisted therapy and a major promoter of the method in the country, the National Association of Equine-Assisted Therapy (ANDE-BRASIL), which has been in existence for over 30 years and is headquartered in Brasília, achieved a major success in November 2019.
This month, Law No. 13,830 was approved, which requires health insurance companies to offer equine-assisted therapy treatments to clients with disabilities. However, because of the pandemic, the ANS (National Supplementary Health Agency) has not yet established the criteria for it to be included in the list of recognized therapies.
“In addition to solidifying the method, the legislation considers the welfare of the horses. It comes to empower and standardize the quality of care. As soon as it is included in the ANS list, it can be provided via the SUS (Unified Health System). Given Brazil's size, this process is still expected to take three to five years. Currently, there are 450 equotherapy centers affiliated with ANDE-BRASIL. Without a doubt, it will give a lot of strength to equotherapy, reinforces the specialist.
