For the first time, the block will have a reserved space for wheelchair users and a Libras interpreter
and make it increasingly inclusive. This is the goal of Bloco Exagerado, which performs at Praça Tiradentes (Downtown) on Carnival Monday, 02/12 at 08:00 AM.
For the first time, the show will have a designated space for wheelchair users and Libras interpreters, but the organizers want to go further for coming years.
“Whenever we saw people in wheelchairs we would bring them close, but this year we thought of a reserved space to welcome people with disabilities and we will also have a sign language interpreter through
first time”, says Rafael Braga, creator of the street band.
The idea is for people with disabilities to stay close to the stage, with more comfort and a privileged view of the show. Even though they can feel up close the emotion of the drum kit performing on the ground, next to the reserved space.
But Rafael wants to go further and dreams that people with disabilities will start participating in the percussion workshops that are offered throughout the year and next year can have members in the Bloco Exagerado drum section.
Diversity is already a hallmark of the street band. According to Rafael, the plurality in the crowd is visible, and he also highlights the presence of LGBTQIA+ people, since Cazuza is an icon of the community: “When we play songs like O Tempo Não Para, people cry at the intensity of the lyrics. People get emotional at this moment in the show because they relate.”.
