A Chamber of Deputies approved this Monday (9) a bill that establishes a national policy for fibromyalgia sufferers, who had their condition included in the list of disabilities. The law takes effect 6 months after its publication in the official gazette. The bill still goes to the Senate for analysis.
With this, fibromyalgia patients are equated to a person with a disability. According to the law, this equivalence depends on the performance of a biopsychosocial assessment conducted by a multidisciplinary team “that considers impairments in body functions and structures, socio-environmental, psychological, and personal factors, limitations in the performance of activities, and restriction of participation.”.
The project provides for fibromyalgia sufferers to have multidisciplinary care in their treatment.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease that causes pain and disorders, and can manifest through sensitivity to touch, burning sensations, tingling, or muscle pain. In addition to pain, patients may also experience fatigue, mood swings, bowel changes, among other symptoms.
