With the advancement of technology, wheelchair users can enjoy equipment that guarantees their autonomy, enabling greater mobility and ease of use, which are highlighted at the 17th Reatech – International Fair of Technologies in Rehabilitation, Inclusion and Accessibility, running until Sunday (4) at São Paulo Expo. Although they do not offer low prices, they indicate an important trend for people with disabilities (PwDs). These are devices attached to manual wheelchairs.
A Mobility, a company specializing in solutions and products for people with physical disabilities or reduced mobility, is presenting the Freedom Trake at the fair, equipment produced in the United States that allows travel across any terrain. “We can say that it turns the wheelchair into a tank,” jokes Carolina Ximenes, from the company's marketing team.
The vehicle uses tracks—similar to those on tanks—instead of wheels. Priced at R$ 50,000, it is designed for outdoor use, as the system is made of a durable plastic composite.
Another new product, also imported from the U.S., is the Spinergy ZX1 Power, which enables the motorization of monoblock wheelchairs, as it is mounted on the rear axle. “On X-frame wheelchairs, there’s no way to install the system,” says Carolina. The device costs R$ 56 mil. In addition to these wheelchairs, visitors will be able to check out the Fly Kit, which costs R$ 12 mil and transforms the wheelchair into a true scooter. The device, which is mounted on the front, resembles a motorcycle handlebar and even includes a speedometer, headlight, and horn.
