Activities such as basketball, rugby, and volleyball will be offered by the Sports Association for the Disabled, and will feature the participation of characters from Monica's Gang. The main rehabilitation, inclusion, and accessibility technology fair will take place in September.
São Paulo, August 2022 – The Sports Association for the Disabled (ADD) will have a special participation in the 17th Reatech – International Fair of Technologies in Rehabilitation, Inclusion and Accessibility. In partnership with the Brazilian Paralympic Clubs Committee (CBCP), it will be at the event not only with booths, but also with a 1,000 m² sports arena, set up specially for the occasion, which will host a series of activities.
The arena will feature a multi-sport court, a mini athletics track, and a mini-court. So far, the confirmed sports are basketball and wheelchair rugby, goalball, boccia, table tennis, and sitting volleyball – totaling 32 hours of programming. Furthermore, on Saturday, September 3, thanks to a partnership between ADD and the Maurício de Sousa Institute, the characters from Monica's Gang will also make an appearance. The aim is thus to promote integration and unity among youth and adults, with and without disabilities.
“Sport is in itself a powerful tool for inclusion, generating independence and autonomy in various areas of life. It maximizes the potential for overcoming challenges, both in terms of the difficulties a person encounters due to their disability and regarding socially imposed aspects, such as prejudice and a lack of accessibility,” states Eliane Miada, director and founder of ADD.
According to Miada, sports also help raise awareness and sharpen people's critical sense regarding their power to pursue their rights. For this very reason, ADD has participated in and contributed to Reatech for 22 years, ever since its very first edition. “The goal is to keep sports programs for people with disabilities constantly in the spotlight. Visibility peaks during the Paralympic Games, only to drop again when the competition ends,” he says. “We provide resources and training for parasports organizations from various parts of the country. Projects like the ones carried out at Reatech also contribute.”.
Reatech is the industry leader in Latin America and hosts employment agencies specializing in people with disabilities and reduced mobility, as well as segments such as trained animals, adapted vehicles, hearing aid manufacturers, special equipment, hospital supplies, prosthetics and orthotics, and alternative therapies. The trade show will take place from September 1st to 4th at São Paulo Expo, and expects to bring together at least 300 exhibitors and welcome more than 52,000 visitors.
“The event plays a role in promoting inclusion and accessibility in all spheres of society. It is a showcase for the development of this sector, which is marked by constant updates and innovation; in other words, it is a time to discover new products and trends aimed at people with disabilities and reduced mobility,” says Maurício Macedo, CEO of Fiera Milano Brasil, organizer and promoter of Reatech 2022.
Visitors to the fair can also take advantage of the content that will be presented during the four days of the event. This year, the planned activities include Pet Course – Animal-Assisted Therapy, o Equine-Assisted Therapy Workshop, o Reamed (Congress of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation), the TecFisio | TO (Seminar on Advanced Technologies in Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy), Reatech Congress, and the Reashow – Expositors Seminar.
