Reatech 2022 holds volunteer initiative, enriching the experience of those who offer and receive support

140 people will collaborate in activities at the main trade show on rehabilitation, inclusion, and accessibility in Latin America. The event takes place from September 1 to 4 at SP Expo

São Paulo, August 2022 – A 17th Reatech – International Fair of Technologies for Rehabilitation, Inclusion and Accessibility, which takes place between September 1st and 4th at São Paulo Expo, brings back a traditional initiative of the event, organized and promoted by Fiera Milano Brasil. This is the volunteer project, held since the 2005 edition.

“Practicing helping actions/volunteering allows people to exercise citizenship, learn new things, assimilate the importance of social causes, and positively impact the lives of others as well as their own. It is not for nothing that organizations increasingly value individuals with this experience,” states Suely Yanez, coordinator of the initiative since its inception seventeen years ago.

During the four days of the event, the group of helpers/volunteers, consisting of people over 18 years of age, will participate in reception and circulation activities at the fair; support in vans/subway exit; assistance in auditoriums and sports court; and accompaniment of people with visual impairments or reduced mobility who need assistance, among other activities.

On August 20th, the selected volunteers participated in a basic training and preparation meeting in São Paulo. “There was participation from both university students and non-students. There were many candidates with availability to act. During the meeting, practical exercises were conducted, and we shared guidelines on how they should behave and communicate properly with the public, which largely consists of people with disabilities, but who above all are people who, like all visitors, must be treated with love and respect,” says Suely. After a screening process, 140 people were selected.

Reatech volunteers receive municipal transport vouchers per day (1 one-way/1 return); a certificate of hours delivered after the event; and a snack kit per period of participation.

The largest showcase of inclusion solutions

The 17th Reatech will bring together more than 300 exhibitors, who will showcase market innovations and promote the inclusion of people with disabilities. The event is expected to welcome an audience of over 52,000 visitors.

The trade fair is the leading event in the sector in Latin America and hosts employment agencies specialized in people with disabilities and reduced mobility, as well as segments such as trained animals, adapted vehicles, hearing aid manufacturers, special equipment, hospital supplies, prostheses and orthoses, alternative therapies, tourism and leisure, the pharmaceutical industry, and wheelchair manufacturers, among others.

Worldwide, more than 1 billion people currently need assistive technology. To give an idea of the innovation capacity within this market, there are more than 130,000 patent applications related to conventional and emerging assistive technologies between 1998 and 2020, according to a report by the World Intellectual Property Organization of the UN (United Nations).

Those who visit the fair can also take advantage of the content that will be presented during the four days of the event. One of the highlights of the fair is the Reatech Congress on Inclusion and Accessibility in the Labor Market. The topic will be debated by recognized specialists in Brazil and abroad, such as the prosecutor and national coordinator for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities and the Elimination of Discrimination in the Workplace at the MPT (Ministry of Labor Prosecution Office), Adriana Reis de Araújo, and Larissa Lopes, global head of Diversity and Inclusion at the BRF group.

This year, there are still plans for Pet Course – Animal-Assisted Therapy, o Equine-Assisted Therapy Workshop, o Reamed (Congress of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation), the TecFisio (Advanced Technologies in Physiotherapy Seminar) and the Reashow – Expositors Seminar.
