Equotherapy as a rehabilitation method for the care of people with disabilities was recognized in 2019 with the approval of a law by the National Congress and presidential sanction. Now, the National Equotherapy Association (ANDE) is working to have it included in the Unified Health System (SUS). The information comes from the organization's vice-president, Gladstone Menezes Cruz, who presented the workshop Equotherapy – Legal Updates during the last day of Reatech + Expo Brasil Paralímpico.
According to the leader, the Bill 3446/19, which requires the SUS to provide equine-assisted therapy as a therapeutic resource when prescribed by a physician, has already been approved by the Chamber of Deputies and is now moving through the Senate. ”The reporting is being handled by Congressman Nelsinho Trad in the Committee on Social Affairs.”
The bill that regulates equine-assisted therapy in Brazil (Law 13.830/19), determines that “prescription must follow protocols and guidelines of the Ministry of Health”.
