Augusto Delfino, 28, went to vote on Sunday morning (15) accompanied by his father, Marcos Antonio Delfino, at EEB Aderbal Ramos da Silva, in the Estreito neighborhood, on the mainland area of Florianópolis. The physical educator has cerebral palsy and was equipped with his own accessibility resources in order to vote.

In addition to a head-mounted stylus, which he uses to operate tablets and cell phones, Augusto also brought a stand to elevate the electronic voting machine so he could reach the numbers. His father says that the young man is very engaged with the elections and analyzes the candidates and proposals to make his choice:

He always participates and wanted to participate. He has always wanted to exercise this citizenship, right. He, even, when the campaign starts, already starts analyzing the candidates.

Guto, as he likes to be called, is politically active on his Facebook account. He coaches a soccer team in Palhoça and writes on the “Blog do Guto” about the matches of Avaí, his favorite team.

People with disabilities in elections

This year, 22,948 voters declared to the Electoral Court that they have one or more types of disability. According to information from the Regional Electoral Court of SC (TRE-SC), the main types reported are mobility and visual impairments. 

Voters with disabilities who did not make an advance request to the electoral judge may vote with the assistance of a trusted person this Sunday. The polling station president evaluates each situation.

The law provides that voters with disabilities or reduced mobility have priority when voting.
