Reatech Congress will debate accessibility and the inclusion of people with disabilities in the labor market

Event is part of the content schedule of the 17th International Fair of Technologies for Rehabilitation, Inclusion and Accessibility, which takes place from September 1 to 4 at São Paulo Expo

São Paulo, July 2022 – The main challenge to promote inclusion and accessibility for people with disabilities in the labor market is to understand which aspects limit this group. And this limitation generally does not lie in the disabilities they present. Cultural issues and worldviews are essentially what act as barriers in society. And, as Paulo Serra, director of Innovation at Blue Ocean Events, the company responsible for curating the Reatech Congress on Inclusion and Accessibility in the Labor Market, “the corporate environment ends up replicating this universe”.

According to the last census conducted by Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics – IBGE, there are over 45 million Brazilians who have some type of difficulty seeing, hearing, moving around, or have some type of mental disability. According to Labor Inspection Information and Statistics Panel, in Brazil, there are 768,723 job openings reserved for people with disabilities (PCDs). Of this total, 712,829 are employed in private companies, 35,551 in mixed-economy companies, and 20,343 in the public sector. However, just over 50%, or about 372,000 of the total positions, are filled.

O Congress, to be held from September 1 to 3, it is part of the content programming of Reatech – International Fair of Technologies in Rehabilitation, Inclusion and Accessibility, promoted by Fiera Milano Brasil, between September 1 and 4, at São Paulo Expo. For Serra, accessibility and inclusion are extremely important topics that need to be discussed more in society. “It is essential that companies understand the challenges faced daily by people with disabilities, whose inclusion must be a political, educational, and corporate priority in Brazil.”.

For this very reason, accessibility and social inclusion of people with disabilities in companies were the anchor themes chosen for the Reatech Congress. Maurício Macedo, CEO of Fiera Milano Brasil, highlights that “it will be a meeting with a corporate focus that will show how companies have worked to promote the inclusion and accessibility of these individuals. How leaders act in management and interact with them, ensuring that inclusion is not just an obligation, a need to fill a quota, but that it is effective. It is an event that talks about hiring, development, and training of people in practice.”.

Talent retention

To debate these issues, the Reatech Congress on Inclusion and Accessibility in the Labor Market will feature renowned experts in Brazil and abroad, such as Adriana Reis de Araújo, prosecutor and national coordinator for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities and the Elimination of Discrimination in the Workplace at the Ministry of Public Labor (MPT); Larissa Lopes, global head of Diversity and Inclusion at the BRF group; Carolina Gomes, executive director of People and Management at the Oswaldo Cruz German Hospital; Daniele Botaro, LATAM Head of Diversity and Inclusion at Oracle—among many other leaders in the sector.

“These are people whose jobs are connected to inclusion and accessibility. They understand that it is useless to invest if, within a few months, the person leaves the company because they do not feel included,” explains Serra. “Companies need to take action to retain talent among people with disabilities. The debates will show that this concern exists in the private sector, but it needs to be expanded.”.

Among other panels that will be presented during the congress are: “The Role of Organizations and Society in Breaking Paradigms Related to the Inclusion of People with Disabilities,” “Leader Training to Interact, Involve, Empower, and Engage People with Disabilities or in Rehabilitation,” and “How Leaders Foster the Promotion of a Culture That Favors Integration, Empathy, and Diversity.”.
