To raise children's awareness of the importance of social inclusion for people with disabilities and to combat the prejudice that exists in society. These are the goals of EMEF – Visconde de Cairú Municipal Elementary School, located in the Cidade Tiradentes neighborhood in the east zone of São Paulo, which took 29 students from the first to the seventh grade on a visit to the 17th Reatech – International Fair of Technologies for Rehabilitation, Inclusion, and Accessibility.
Currently, the school has 25 students with some level of disability. And the concern for inclusion at the school goes further, according to teacher Eslane Denardi, who accompanied the group. “We work on awareness in the classroom and we also have a sign language class.”
During the visit, the children had the opportunity to converse in Brazilian Sign Language with deaf visitors and some sign language teachers participating in the fair. They also learned about the training work of animals that assist in therapies, which are at the petting zoo and the equine therapy area.
