Tips: Braille university textbooks for students with visual impairments

Find Braille university textbooks in Brazil it is still a challenge. The adaptation of university textbooks for people with visual impairments exists in low quantity, making it largely inaccessible to higher education students.
Normally, adaptations of works are made primarily in Braille, in audiobook format and in relief. In Brazil, about 1.3 billion people in the world live with some form of vision impairment, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Through Braille, it is possible to establish communication among blind or visually impaired people, ensuring competence, independence, and equality.

An initiative by the State University of Feira de Santana (Uefs), in Bahia, makes braille books, audiobooks, and computer reading applications accessible to everyone at Julieta Carteado Central Library. The collection contains braille books, audio books, and audiobooks in site of the institution.
Other options are Dorina Nowill Foundation and a Louis Braille Library of the São Paulo Cultural Center. Dorina Nowill Foundation provides audiobooks and digital books. However, heavily illustrated textbooks or those with formulas – such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or Geography, with maps – are also preferentially adapted for Braille.
