In 2015, the Navy command authorized a Paralympic athlete coach to use the Almirante Adalberto Nunes Physical Education Center (Cefan) for training. That was the birth of the embryo of Paraprolim, a program being presented at Reatech 2024. According to the program's coordinator, José Reis, the intention is to attract more athletes.
Paraprolim is a social reintegration project for people with disabilities through sport, according to Reis. “In 2018, a partnership emerged between the Brazilian Navy (MB) and the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) that made the development of this project possible, which currently has 204 registered athletes, divided into six sports: athletics, swimming, powerlifting, shooting, table tennis, and archery.”.
The project is open to all of society. It is only necessary to meet the following criteria:
- Be between 8 and 40 years old;
– Hold a medical report certifying visual, intellectual, or physical disability;
– Submit a medical evaluation to engage in sports activities;
- Schedule a visit to perform the physical assessment.
