For there to be effective inclusion of people with disabilities or in rehabilitation in companies, it is necessary for leaders to be integrated into the process. During the Reatech Congress on Inclusion and Accessibility in the Labor Market, which is being held at the São Paulo Expo, this topic was debated, highlighting the importance of training these leaders for the process to be carried out successfully.
“A leader who hasn't understood equity hasn't understood people. Therefore, they don't know their role and will be phased out. Anyone who isn't inclusive will become obsolete. We are putting a tremendous amount of energy into increasing the representation of people with disabilities in our company, said Camila Ribeiro, diversity and inclusion consultant at Votorantim Cimentos.
Currently, awareness among authorities and the important role they play in inclusion has been taking place in companies. “You can tell the difference between leadership that is engaged and leadership that doesn't care about time. We always think the issue is resolved, but if you don't work with the leadership, it isn't. It's like bailing water in a sinking boat,” assessed Carolina Gomes, executive director of people and management at Hospital Alemão Oswaldo Cruz.
Panel moderator Marcelo Pires, CEO and founder of Consolidar Diversidade, reinforced how essential this training is. “The leader needs to seek more meaning in relationships. A safe environment is essential for this to happen. Often, people are being trained without even realizing it. We have clients who started caring about Brazil's demographics. This works very well, because inside the company they have a piece of the country. Create affirmative actions to reach this true demographic,” he concluded.
