Visitors to the 17th Reatech – International Fair of Technologies for Rehabilitation, Inclusion, and Accessibility, at São Paulo Expo, will be able to experience what it is like to drive a vehicle adapted for PWD – People with Disabilities. Provided by Nissan, the cars have been equipped with devices by Cavenaghi that facilitate driving and control.
According to Gustavo Ribeiro, test drive coordinator, all visitors with a valid National Driver's License (CNH) can drive the cars. “We register people who want to take the test, provided their CNH is up to date; it cannot be a provisional license. We also check if the person needs any special equipment to assist with driving, as there are differences between the cars.”.
The three Nissan Kicks received steering spinner knobs, which assist with steering wheel movement. Only one vehicle has a hand-operated accelerator and brake control, and in another, the accelerator was placed on the left side. “All of this equipment was developed and manufactured by Cavenaghi,” explains the coordinator.
Another precaution taken by the event organizers is to keep an instructor always next to the driver to ensure greater safety for the participants. “This person is trained to act in any emergency situation and not just to guide the use of the equipment,” he states.
