The 17th edition of Reatech, taking place at São Paulo Expo from September 1 to 4, is the first with full accessibility for the deaf community. This is thanks to the partnership with AME, through its real-time LIBRAS-to-Portuguese translation platform via videoconference, ICOM. Totems were placed throughout the event, enabling communication between exhibitors and visitors.
The tool, free for the deaf, is very easy to use. Available on both iOS and Android systems, it connects hearing and deaf people through an interpreter who receives the video call and provides translation online and in real time through a call center, available 24 hours a day. It can be used so that the user has no trouble when being served at a bakery, in a bank, or even when communicating with friends and relatives.
“I have witnessed grandparents crying because they were able to talk to their grandchildren. They had never been able to before and, thanks to ICOM, they had this experience. We made this platform viable and we already have many clients, such as SAMU. Just look at how important this service can be during an emergency. We aim to provide independence and autonomy so that the deaf person can communicate in any situation,” said Júlio Gonzalez, technology and startup director.
